Code of Conduct & Guidelines

The policies of IPCAA are set out in its Code of Conduct, to which all member companies are committed, and Guidelines which offer advice and recommendations on some aspects of medical congress organisation which have in the past proved contentious. The Code and the Guidelines were updated in 2009.

Code of Conduct

It is the IPCAA’s policy that no company may become a member without subscribing to the Code of Conduct. This Code, established in 1991 after consultation with the European Union and the European Federation of the Pharmaceutical Industry (EFPIA), provides information and recommendations on the successful management of the venues, exhibitions, travel and accommodation costs, hospitality and scientific content of medical congresses.

Guidelines

The IPCAA’s Medical Congress Guidelines have been developed and refined to help member companies and congress organisers to clarify areas of event organisation which may prove complex or contentious.

These Guidelines are particularly concerned with delivery of successful congresses from the perspective of all participants including the scientific and logistic organisers, the supporting industry and, most importantly, the delegates.

They also provide guidance to organisers with information and advice on congress budgets, satellite meetings, optimum exhibition size and location, delegate registration, poster sessions, the use of video and other media, congress logos, congress-related publishing and social events.
